Chapter 2: Mr. and Mrs. Ogre

About thirty minutes later, Callie and Cassandra came upon stone cottage. Smoke seeped out of the chimney and the plants in the flower boxes gently swayed in the breeze. The house was on seated atop fertile soil that was obviously used for gardening. The sisters nervously approached the flowered path.

Cassandra: Look Callie! It looks like someone lives here. Do you think they'll help us?

 

Callie: I don't know, Cass. I hope so. But we'd better be real careful, we don't know these people. They could be axe murderers or something.

 

Cassandra: I sure hope they're nice. Their house is really pretty, I want to live here!

 

Callie: They might be really hungry and turn us into soup.

 

Cassandra: "exasperated" Oh, Callie!

 



Humberto: What are we having for dinner tonight, Alivia? And please don't say salad.

 

Alivia: We're having marinated deer steak with mashed potatoes and gravy with a side of glazed baby carrots.

 

Humberto: "excited" Really?!

 

Alivia: No, we're having salad.

 

Berto grunts in disappointment.

 

Alivia: Well, if you want something different, why don't you go fishing?

 

Humberto: I guess...

 

A knock at the door interrupts them, and they both hurry over to the door.

 



 Callie: "screaming" No! Ogres! Run, Cassie!

Alivia: "grabbing hold of Callie's arm" No, don't leave! We're not going to hurt you, promise!

Cassandra: "squinting suspiciously" You're not?

Alivia: "shakes head" Absolutely not. We get so lonely up here that any and all company is welcome. If you need shelter, you can sleep in our bed. Right Berto?

Humberto: Uh, well...

Alivia: Good, then its decided then. You two will stay here tonight. Now, why don't you tell us how you ended up this deep in the Hollow Woods?

Sometime later...

Callie: ...and then we ended up here.

Humberto: That's terrible! I'm so sorry for you two.

Alivia: You two can stay here for as long you want! Ever since our son died we've been aching to raise a youngin', but we haven't had much luck. We would be just happy as pie if you would come live with us.

Callie: Oh, I don't know...

Cassandra: We don't have much of a choice, Callie. If Lyn ever sees us, she'll sick her boyfriend on us! "turning to Alivia" We'd love to become apart of your family.

Alivia: "clapping excitedly" Oh yay, we're gonna have youngins' again!

Humberto: Well, these youngins' need to go to bed, Liv. If they're gonna be stayin', they're gonna be workin'!

Callie and Cassandra: "perplexed" Work?

Alivia: Oh yes, there's much to do tomorrow. You two better get ready for bed.

Later that night...

Cassandra: Callie?

Callie: "yawning" Yeah, Cass?

Cassandra: What do you think they're gonna make us do? We've never had to work before, we may not know how to do it.

Callie: We'll figure it out, Cass. Now go to sleep.

Cassandra: Ok. Night Cal.

Callie: Night Cass.

Chapter 3: Earning Your Keep

Chapter 1: The Golddigger

Dad: Here we are girls. Hollow Woods. This is where you and Lyn are going to be camping for the tonight. you're going to be sleeping in tents and cooking hot dogs on a fire.

Dad: I'm going to heading off now. You girls be good to your stepmother, and do what she says. Remember, this supposed to be a bonding experience for you guys, so have lots of fun together. Come here and say goodbye to me Cassie.

Cassandra: I'll miss you Daddy! See you tomorrow!

Dad: You too Callie. Watch out for your little sister.

Callie: I will, Dad.

Dad: Alright, I'll see you guys later.

Lyn: Now he's gone, and I'm all alone with those brats. "laughs maniacally and starts walking into the woods"

Cassandra: Wait up Lyn! Come on Callie, we'd better catch up. Hey Lyn! Why are you dressed so fancy for a camping trip? And why do we have to wear these rags with no shoes? Lyn?!

Callie: I have a bad feeling.

                                             One Hour Later
Coming across a clearing of trees, Cate stopped walking. 

Lyn: All right, here we are.

Callie: "looking around" Where is 'here'? And why didn't we bring any camping equipment?


Lyn: "turning around" Alright, look you stupid brats. I'm leaving now, and you're going to be staying here. And you're not going to be coming back. You see, you father is rich, and I want his money. And you little beasts are in my way!

Cassandra: What?! You can't do that! Daddy'll come for us, then he'll come after you!

Lyn: Hahaha, don't make me laugh. I've got my boyfriend at his, ahem, our mansion. He should have killed him by now and be waiting for me at the edge of the woods. And I'm going to inherit everything because his two little heiresses just disappeared into thin air.

 

Callie: "You can't do that! We'll follow you out and get the police!

Lyn: "laughing" I don't think so. If you follow me, my boyfriend will kill you. So you see, I'm not completely heartless. I'm giving you a chance to live in these woods. A thin chance, but a chance nonetheless. 'She turned around and started walking back where they had come.'

Cassandra: "sobbing" Oh Callie, what are we going to do? We're going to die here!

Callie: Don't be silly Cassie, we'll survive. We'll find a way. We have to.

But when they come across a cottage inhabited by an ogre couple, they find love they haven't known since their mother died, a love that will prevail through the bad times, and flourish in the good times.
